A-Frican Merry Christmas

Image
So basically, I thought I'd just let you guys know how Christmas went over here 10,300 Miles away from home.. If my calendar didn't notify me that it was Christmas I 100% would have forgotten, bc it's just nothing like home, it's hot as John outside, my little fan in my room can't possibly keep up with the heat. Not to mention the family of mosquitoes that visits me every night!  It's a constant battle of whether or not I overheat with my blanket, or stay protected from those suckas. My parents sent me a lot of American snacks so big shoutout to them! I finally bit the bullet and decided it was time for me to start cooking. (I put water in a Ramen noodle packet and chucked it in the microwave) I felt so accomplished to be a true chef The days following Christmas... eish But we had lots of days where we weren't allowed to go out and work  Yk, because of how safe South Africa is and everything 😊   But fast forward a few days and now it's New Years eve, so...

Hey yalls, still Alive for the most part

Missionary work in December is absolutely crap, everyone goes out of town, like when I say everyone I quite literally mean everyone leaves. So apparently they have money to travel out of town for 2 months, but not enough to come to church? Make it make sense. Also, "it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" is an absolute joke here in SA. The weather this past week hasn't been below 100 degrees, imagine how nice and hot the apartment is when we come back at night, no air-conditioning, we basically live in a big brick pizza oven. I've started putting my pajamas in the freezer before I leave for the day, it helps for Like 2 seconds but then they go back to warm again. Any tips on how to not die from overheating while you sleep? Maybe I can give 3 highlights of the past few weeks: - A baby pulled off the sacrament tablecloth, no idea how nothing fell off, it was the best magic trick I've ever seen. - We had some unexpected new friends come to church on Sunday,...

No Ways

Y'all it's been a fat minute since I wrote, and I'm not exactly going to write a lot this time either. This week was nice and I'm just going to tell some short stories. I've had some people tell me they don't hear many positive stories from my mission so here are some. Thandukwazi : suffering from depression, we helped her find Christ and bring the peace and joy he offers to EVERYONE!  We also told her if she came to church the Lord would bless her life so much, she wouldn't even know what to do with herself.  Lo and behold, her small cake selling business went from selling 50 Rands a day... to over 700 Rand in an HOUR! Oh how happy I was to hear this awesome story.  (She's getting baptized soon!!) Brandon: this one is a wild story that is way too long for an email, but basically he works at a safari park, and we got to spend a day out there with his future family, yeah that's right, he's proposing soon! We had just an amazing time out there wit...

Oh, hey

So, for this week's email it's gonna be shorty, I'm tired. Hungry. Why is there never time for all the things?! Monday: Pday, we played basketball again. Womp womp. Tuesday: Can't really remember this day tbh. I guess I could probably look back at my journal 😉 Wednesday: Finished my 2nd journal, I write way too much every day. I also had exchanges with my zone leader. He’s not my fave. Thursday: We had district council, it was pretty nice, mainly bc I was away from my ZL lol. Friday:  Lots of people canceling appointments - that’s always a bummer. Saturday:   It was a friend's birthday, so we bought a cake and some yogurt for her bc she loves yogurt.  She was so excited and happy to see us. It's one of the parts of missionary work I enjoy the most. They served up the cake and poured the yogurt on top of the cake. That was a new way to eat cake 😳 Sunday: I had to speak, I thought it was just a quick 5-minute talk, then when your boy pulls up to church and Bra...
